Service Projects
Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation have adopted six areas of focus as organizational priorities and many of the community service projects fall in one of these categories:
- Peace and conflict prevention/resolution
- Disease prevention and treatment
- Water and sanitation
- Maternal and child health
- Basic education and literacy
- Economic and community development
Why do clubs coordinate community service projects? Ultimately, it’s to improve life in the community.
Effective service projects do more than just offer a quick fix for problems. The most effective service projects:
- Respond to real issues
- Improve community members’ lives
- Incorporate the abilities of those who are served
- Recognize the contributions of all participants as important and necessary
- Are based on a realistic assessment of available resources
- Aim for specific goals and objectives with measurable results
- Build effective networks
- Empower people and communities

In the Rotary Club of Elko, we pride ourselves on the many projects we've engaged in within our own communities and internationally. Annually, we participate in the "Green Up Clean Up Day" in partnership with the City of Elko. We spend much time involved in youth and student projects and we support international projects. Please contact us to find out what our latest community service project and maybe you can volunteer with us to improve our community.
