Curtis Calder
President - Rotary Club of Elko
2010-2011
With the completion of the June 30th Demotion Dinner, my year as Club President officially began. Along with our Board of Directors, consisting of Katie Neddenriep (Vice-President), LaVon Thomsen (Treasurer), Bailey Billington-Benson (Secretary), Travis Gerber (Past President), John Maas, Jim Kelley, and Rich Perry, we plan on working hard to make this a productive and rewarding year.
Currently, there are 54 Rotary Clubs in District 5190…our Rotary Club is the 10th oldest in the District, and the 5th oldest in Nevada. While we should be proud of our legacy, we shouldn’t rest on our laurels. Our Club has the potential to do great things. As President, I intend to lay the groundwork for future success.
I have five (5) goals for the 2010 – 2011 year:
1) I’m asking the Club to bring in a net increase of 9 new, quality members. Let’s get our membership back to 100 this year!!
2) I’m asking for continued participation and attendance from our active members, as well as those who don’t regularly attend.
3) I’m asking that we meet or exceed our fundraising goals in 5 specific areas:
· Rather than a single fundraising project for Polio Plus, I’m asking that all attending members consider a small donation during a monthly “pass-the-hat” event held on the last meeting of every month. If every member contributes $5, we will exceed our club goal of $2,000 by at least 20%.
· Continued support of the Annual Programs Fund, which is the $25 donation we receive on our quarterly invoice. $100 annually is a small price to pay to help support Rotary’s many humanitarian and educational programs. All donations count towards your Paul Harris Award.
· Participation in the Permanent Fund & Major Gifts Fund. Currently, Elko Rotary has no Benefactors or Bequest Society members. A future program will be conducted explaining this worthy program.
· Continued support of the Rotary Christmas Ornament Program. Let’s support Rebecca and Katrinka and sell as many ornaments as we can this year. It’s for a great cause!!
· Continued support of the Rotary Foundation Dinner. We’re considering another joint function with the Ely and Winnemucca Clubs, possibly travelling to either Ely or Winnemucca for this year’s dinner.
4) I’m asking that we participate in at least one new community-oriented service project.
5) Most of all, I’m asking that we obey the number one rule of Rotary: To Have Fun!!!
It’s an honor to serve as your Club President for 2010 – 2011. If you have any questions, concerns, or just wish to visit about our Club, please feel free to contact me at 934-7625.
